The New Castle Baseball & Softball Association is a independent, non-profit and all volunteer organization which operates and supervises a developmental baseball and softball program, as well as a structured baseball and softball program under the rules and regulations of Little League Baseball and ASA Softball. The chartered purpose is to "implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of teamwork, fair play, good sportsmanship, friendly competition, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority."


Basketball

  • New Castle Recreation Basketball Program consists of league play for grades 4 through 8 for boys and girls. The Developmental Program involves 3rd grades boys and 3rd grade girls.
  • The New Castle Youth Basketball Association sponsors traveling basketball teams for boys (separate teams for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades) and girls (currently separate teams for 5th and 6th grades and a 7th and 8th grade combined team) who either live in the Town of New Castle or are students in the Chappaqua School District #4. 

New Castle Recreation Basketball Program

Fee: $45 - Grade 3 Boys & Grade 3 Girls - Developmental
$70 - Grades 4-8 Boys and Grades 4-8 Girls - League Play

Season: December-March
Evaluations: Held in November and early December

Registration: Required and open to all New Castle residents

League Play teams have one practice during the week and games are on Saturday morning. The Developmental Program meets once a week on Saturday mornings. This program is designed to provide girls and boys with instructional and team play.


New Castle Youth Basketball Association

League: The NCYBA sponsors traveling teams which play in the Tri-County Basketball League (www.tcbl.org). All games are refereed by two patched referees.  
Generally, High School and College rules apply.
Ages: Boys - separate 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams
Girls - currently separate 5th and 6th Grade teams and a combined 7th and 8th grade team.
Fee: $500 - covers insurance, gym rental, referees, uniforms and equipment
Season: Tryouts in early-October; practices start in late-October; games start after Thanksgiving; and season ends in March
Practices and Games: Each team is allotted three 1-1/2 to 2 hour gym slots per week, starting in late-October, during which they can schedule a practice or game.  Most teams play an average approximately 20 or more league games.  Additionally, each team may enter up to approximately four tournaments which usually means another four games per tournament.

Football

Fees: Flag - $40 - Grades 3, 4 and 5
Instructional - $75 - Grades 5 and 6 (4th grade is over 70lbs)

Flag Football
The New Castle Flag Football Program is for 3rd through 5th graders; meets twice a week for six weeks; and teaches very basic football fundamentals with fun being the main objective. No equipment is necessary.

Instructional Football
The New Castle Recreation Youth Football Program is for 4th, 5th and 6th graders; meets three times a week for six weeks; and is a combination of instructional and actual play. Program includes physical contact and required NOCSAE approved equipment.

Lacrosse

The New Castle Recreation and Parks Commission along with the New Castle Lacrosse Association provides the following youth Lacrosse programs for boys and girls. Registration Forms are available at the Recreation Office.  Players must provide their own equipment.  All participants must have a current membership in U.S. Lacrosse - Go to www.uslacrosse.org to join or renew your membership.  A combination of instruction and games are provided.

Winter Indoor Session - Currently available to boys only

One day per week for games - schedules are not yet available. 

Grades Varsity, Fee: $150.

Grades JV, Fee: $150.

Grade 7 & 8, Fee: $150.

Grade 5 & 6, Fee: $150.

Grade 3 & 4, Fee: $150.

Spring Outdoor Session - Boys / Girls Lacrosse 
(Boys and Girls programs will be held separately)

Grade 7 & 8, Fee: $150.
Prior playing experience required.  Player selection will be based on a competitive tryout. Practice sessions will be at the coach's discretion.

Grade 5 & 6, Fee: $150.
2 days per week for instruction, practice and games in the Hudson Valley Lacrosse League.

Grade 3 & 4, Fee: $150.
2 days per week for instruction, practice and games in the Hudson Valley Lacrosse League.

Grade 1 - 2, Fee: $100.
2 days per week for instruction and practice and possible games.

Grade K, Fee: $50.
One day per week for instruction and practice only. 


Soccer

  • American Youth Soccer Organization provides recreational and a select level of soccer for children between the ages of 5 and 17 years with an eight week season in the fall and spring.
  • Chappaqua Soccer Club is a travel program of competitive soccer teams for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 19 with both a fall and spring season.

American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)

Season: Eight weeks in fall; eight weeks in spring. Younger divisions (generally children from Kindergarten through second grade) play on Saturdays, older divisions (third grade and older) practice on Saturdays with games on Sundays.
Number of games: Each team plays 8 fall and 8 spring games. Additional games for Extra program
Number of practices per week: 1 plus additional practices for the Extra program

A.Y.S.O. provides recreational soccer for children between the ages of 5-17. Emphasis is placed on balanced teams, sportsmanship, team play and positive coaching. The select program is available by try-out for kids seeking additional play and competitiveness.   Certification training for volunteer coaches and referees is provided. And, of course, everyone plays.


Chappaqua Soccer Club

Fee: Varies per team
Season: First half of the season begins the first week of September and ends the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Second half of the season begins the first week of April and ends the Sunday before school closes in June.
Open Tryouts: Held in May
Number of games: 9-10 in each half-season; 18-20 total weather permitting

The travel program provides boys and girls from 10 years old to 19 years old the opportunity to play competitive soccer. Emphasis is placed on teaching youngsters soccer skills, field play concepts and sportsmanship, all within a supportive atmosphere. All of the coaches are experienced and most hold a U.S.S.F. coaches license and Red Cross CPR/First Aid certifications.


Wrestling

Fee: $150.00
Grades: 2 - 8
Sponsor: New Castle Recreation and Parks Commission in cooperation with Ken Colao, Former Head Coach at Horace Greeley and Ossining High Schools.
Seasons: 10 Sessions
Number of Practices: 5 weeks meeting twice a week.

Coach Colao has over 20 years of experience in coaching wrestling at the high school level.  Participants will learn basic holds and escapes.  Equipment will be provided.
