The ACOS believes that preserving Open Space is integral to the quality of life that we enjoy in the Town of New Castle.

Welcome

Open Space can be defined as land that is largely free of residential and commercial development. It contributes significantly to our Town's unique rural character, and our sense of place. In the Town of New Castle, it is often difficult for the average person to know which open spaces are preserved and which have been targeted for development. This web site can help you find out which parts of your neighborhood may be at risk and what you can do to help preserve New Castle's unique rural and varied landscape.

We hope this web site will encourage your involvement in helping to preserve the Town's Open Space resources. One way you can help immediately is by simply filling out the short survey. Please pass this link on to someone you know who also cares about the future of our Town's Open Space.

The Advisory Committee on Open Space

The Advisory Committee on Open Space (ACOS) was created to provide assistance and advise to the Town on the development, management and protection of its Open Space resources. For the past 18 months the ACOS has been mapping New Castle's Open Spaces and has created a system of maps which help to identify Open Space areas and the various categories and criteria used in prioritizing the need for conservation and preservation of the Town's remaining Open Space resources.

The ACOS advises New Castle's Town Board and Planning Board on the development management
and protection of the Town's Open Space resources.
