10. Tobacco

The Native Americans’ use of tobacco was limited, and the crops primarily served ceremonial purposes. It was smoked in pipes and open fires, but also used in spiritual curing and healing, that required putting a pinch of tobacco on the eastern side of the roots of specially selected plants, depending on the illness, to please the spirits. The tobacco was often hung from the roofs of the long houses along with corn to dry and store them.
