In the 2000 calendar year the Town's emergency services responded to a total of 1,776 false alarms. Of that total, only 82 false alarms were unavoidable due to severe weather, power interruptions or other factors and were thereby exempted from false alarm fines. This left 1,694 false alarms that were subject to fines and burdened emergency responders. A great many of these false alarms occurred while a resident was at home and could have cancelled the alarm response by calling their central station with their password. Every cancelled response will help to:
°Reduce your fines
°Reduce the strain on volunteers and their equipment
°Allow Police Officers to remain on patrol which now includes anti-terrorism activity since the September 11, 2001 tragedy
